Fall Wreath - DIY

I love how simple this crafty fall wreath is, not to mention very inexpensive to make. Thanks to this BLOG for the great idea!

I started with a few items I bought from the Dollar Tree:
$1.00 FRAME, 2- $1.00 STRANDS OF FALL GARLAND AND $1.00 BAG OF FALL LEAVES

I ALREADY HAD THE GLUE GUN

REMOVE THE GLASS FROM THE FRAME AND WRAP THE GARLAND AROUND THE FRAME, HOT GLUE THE GARLAND THEN PLACE THE INDIVIDUAL LEAVES WHERE NEEDED AND HOT GLUE.

 My $4.00 Fall Wreath

This frame was and 8x10 so it was kinda small for my front door. I plan to make a larger one soon for the front - I will post pictures when I finish.

Shaved Carrot and Pear Salad with Curry Vinaigrette on the Food Network

Recipe courtesy Giada De Laurentiis

Show: Everyday ItalianEpisode: Giada's Bikini Ready Dinners

Ingredients

1 1/2 pound large carrots, trimmed and peeled (about 8 carrots)

2 firm pears (recommended: D'Anjou)

2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley leaves

2 tablespoons white wine vinegar

1 tablespoon curry powder

2 teaspoons honey

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil

Directions
Using a vegetable peeler cut the carrots lengthwise into thin ribbons or slices. Quarter, core, and stem the pears. Using a knife, slice into very thin strips. Place the carrot and pear slices in a large bowl with the chopped parsley.

In a blender combine the white wine, curry powder, honey, salt, and pepper and blend to combine. With the machine running add the olive oil. Pour the dressing over the carrots and pears. Toss to combine and serve immediately.

The only thing missing from this delicious Salad is some protein, so next time I think I'll throw a little chicken in the mix.

Yummy Breakfast Smoothie

If your anything like me every morning I'm trying to think of an easy and quick breakfast. Since I try to workout in the AM I don't want a heavy breakfast on my stomach and I'm getting ready for the Kettlebell Fitness Challenge
There are many options out there but I'm trying to keep it as nutritional as possible, so that narrows it down a bit.
I am a fan of Protein Shakes, after all they are quick and nutritious - and there are so many options out there for "shaking it up a little".... So this morning I made a delicious breakfast shake I thought I'd share with you. * I'm by no means at all a nutritionist or food scientist but I believe this shake is good for you, loaded with protein, calcium and vitamins.
I think tomorrow I will add a little cinnamon to spice it up a bit.....

RECIPE:
1 Cup 2% Milk
1 Scoop of Vanilla Protein Powder
3 Egg Whites (Only the Whites)
2 TBSP Rolled Oats
1 Container of Frozen Vanilla Danino (Yes the kids Yogurt - it's delish and only 70 calories)
*Mix in Blender until very well blended (to be sure you don't have any big pieces of oats)

New Kettlebell Fitness Challenge

Life in the Dub Lane is hosting an exciting new fitness challenge- that I cant wait to start. I love being fit and healthy and trying new workout routines, so what better way than with a challenge. For eight weeks starting September 5th. I will be working out to Kettlebody By Brook - 6 days a week for thirty minutes a day. I've tried so many other workout DVD's but had zero results - mainly because I could not stay committed. They required one hour or more a day. I don't know about you but I don't have that kind of time at home everyday. But 30 minutes - I can do.
As for me - I don't feel like I really need to lose a ton of weight 5-10lbs would be nice, but if I could stay my weight now and just tone up or build muscle that would be great! So stay tuned to see some pictures and hopefully some fantastic results.

DETAILS:

The {3 set} DVD series that we will be using:

Kettlebody By Brook {purchase directly CardioPump}

Cost: $30. That's around $10 per DVD. But for a limited time you can purchase them for $20 on Groupon.

http://www.groupon.com/austin/deals/cardiopump-fitness-austin-1

About the Workout Series:

This 3-DVD, 6 day/week program is intended to transform your body in 8-weeks.

Each DVD is approx. 30 minutes in length.

Equipment Needed:
GoFit 10LB Contoured Kettlebell with Bob Harper DVD (MODEL: 10lb)

The only equipment you'll need is one kettle bell and a yoga mat {or the carpet in your living room}. I recommend using the Contoured Kettlebells from Target, made by Go-Fit. They are much more comfortable and "contour" to your wrists... very important. If you have never used a kettle-bell before, please only purchase a 10lb kettle bell. It will give you the workout that you need. Trust me!
For a great deal on this kettlebell go to http://store.gofit.net/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=GF%2DCKB10&CartID=1 enter code "pureaustin" for 20% off. (free shipping also in you live in Austin).

As always you cant have a great workout routine and expect results without following some nutritional guidelines too so I am adding a link to the cardio pump website where they offer a few videos by Brook Benten on healthy cooking:  http://cardiopump.com/category/back-burner-episodes/

Last but not least, a nice little competitive reward - At the end of the 8 weeks, there will be a nice award for the TWO participants that achieved the greatest results. One participant will be chosen by Brook Benten herself and the other will be chosen by Readers Choice.

So what are you waiting for! Go to http://www.everbrooke.com/2011/08/dub-lane-kettlebody-fitness-challenge-q.html to sign up.

UPDATE:
ok this challenge starts tomorrow and I said I would include pictures so below is my before picture. I will post weekly updates on Sundays.

Wish me luck!!

Denise Richards-"The Real Girl Next Door" - Review

The Real Girl Next Door

What a great book - I finished it in less than four days. I probably would have finished it in less than one day given the opportunity. With kids and a life of my own, four days means this was a pretty darn good book.
I have to say the book brought me laughs and a few tears too. Denise talks openly about her relationships, career, motherhood, family and the ultimate loss of her mother to cancer. I have to say some of my favorite pages in the book where the ones that included all the wonderful words of wisdom from Denise's mother Joni. Like her telling Denise to have try and have fun in everything you do, which is something I think we tend to forget daily. Life is too short not to have a little fun as much a possible. As a mother myself I can really appreciate Denise's take on motherhood and wanting to always protect your children.
So, whether your a fan of Denise Richards or not this is a wonderful book for anyone, mother, daughter, anyone whose has ever lost someone, broken up with someone, or gone through any major life changes. Denise offers a little light into your day with The Real Girl Next Door.
